Georgia Forestry Commission resources 

If you are not already working with your regional Georgia Forestry Commission Community and Urban Forester, we urge you to connect with them. 

  • Contact your GFC community forester to receive free Tree Owner Manuals to be given away along with trees during giveaway events.
  • Ask your GFC community forester to attend your giveaway event and provide tree selection, planting, and maintenance information to giveaway participants

  • Consult with your GFC community forester before planting projects to answer site preparation, planting, and maintenance questions. 

Funding Acknowledgement

Funding is provided by the USDA Forest Service in partnership with the Georgia Tree Council and Georgia Forestry Commission.

Project Reporting

Projects must be completed by March 31, 2027, and the final report must be submitted by April 16, 2027.

Final reports should include:  

  • List of project expenses and supporting documentation of paid invoices/receipts for the approved Georgia ReLeaf expenses 
  • Summary of the completed project, including documentation of project promotion 
  • Number of volunteers that supported the Georgia ReLeaf project 
  • Total number of volunteer hours that supported the Georgia ReLeaf project

Tree planting projects will provide:

  • The address or GPS coordinates of the planting sites
  • Photos of the location before, during, and after installation or of any events held in conjunction with the planting project

Tree giveaway projects will provide:

  • Digital spreadsheet with the zip codes or addresses for each individual who receives a tree, and the number of trees (no more than 2 per individual) received
  • Photos of the tree giveaway event or program

Any major changes to the original proposal must be outlined and approved beforehand, including:  

  • 20% or more of the trees in the approved list are changed  
  • Removal of any supplies included in the approved project proposal for giveaway events (mulch, watering aids) 
  • Changes in planting location or tree giveaway location  
  • Changes in major partnerships
