Trees and Community Engagement: Growing New Champions of your Urban Forest

The pandemic has certainly refreshed Georgians’ awareness of the benefits of access to trees and greenspace. A community loves its trees, but how do we get them involved in learning about the trees they pass as they frequent their favorite park or trail? Learn about how people who live in the City of Rome, Georgia are embracing their trail system like never before and how the city is partnering with a local college on a new trail project – the Berry Trail. They’ll also be planting trees in a park area that’s been neglected, opening up new, additional access to trees and greenspace for a specific area. We’ll also learn about the use of QR codes on signage or even making pamphlets available to deepen a neighborhood’s knowledge of its trees, about mobile tree tours, and about project ideas for connecting people with their trees.

Have your notebook at hand – creative ideas from your fellow Georgia communities will fill it up!

A special feature of this February 16th program is that the Georgia Forestry Commission will honor and recognize current and new Georgia Tree City USA communities, Tree Campus USA colleges and universities, and Tree Line USA utilities.
