Trees and Electrical Safety: A program in partnership with Georgia Power

Present “Trees and Electrical Safety”

The Georgia Tree Council, in partnership with the Georgia Power Company, will present a two-part virtual seminar on “Trees and Electrical Safety,” February 23 and 24, 2021, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. on both days.

During these two sessions, attendees will learn about “Working with Utilities and the High Voltage Safety Act,” “Incidental Line Clearance,” “Right Tree, Right Place,” “The Above and Below of Utility Easements,” “Utility Arboriculture Pruning Practices” and the University of Georgia’s new Community Forestry and Arboriculture emphasis program.

Speakers include Mark Wachter and Bill Haws of the Georgia Power Company, Davey Tree Experts’ Tim Walsh, University of Georgia’s Dr. Jason Gordon, Geoff Kempter of Asplundh, and Dan Bauer of Arbor Equity.

Speakers will address frequently-asked questions about working along electrical transmission lines, vegetation management in utility corridors, the requirements for a line clearance, thinking “further down the road” when planting trees near utility lines, why trees are pruned the way they are in utility arboriculture pruning practices, trees and hazard awareness, and what a consulting arborist needs to take into consideration when called out to a property involving electrical lines.

The registration fee for the two-session webinar is $45.
$30 for Georgia Tree Council members.
4.5 ISA CEUs for Certified Arborists, Utility Specialists, Municipal Specialists, BCMA Management, TW Climber Specialist, and TW Aerial Lift Specialists.
5 CFE hours, category 2, will be available for registered foresters.
A certificate of attendance will be available for landscape architects and other professionals for their continuing education records.
