What Lies Beneath: Soils, Roots, and Urban Trees

webinar

The trees we plant today will be facing more severe weather events, rising temperatures and different weather patterns than the last 60 years, says Paul Josey LA, ASLA, ISA, and Principal, Wolf Josey Landscape Architects, who will report on "The Next 60 years: Planting Soils and Trees in Urban Design." at our May 20 webinar. For those same reasons, the shade, health and adaptability of trees will be even more important in the next 60 years. Protecting the soils they are planted in, selecting the healthiest trees and designing for their growth are critical for the next generation of our canopies. From urban waterfronts to city streets and highway roadsides, we will look at the various approaches to help plant the next generation of our urban trees. Also, Thomas Smiley, Ph.D., Plant Physiologist & Soil Scientist at Bartlett Tree Research Lab, will talk on integral factors in having healthy urban tree roots. Finally, Kay Evanovich, Arborist for the City of Decatur, Georgia, and Brenda Guglielmina of DeepRoot Green Infrastructure, LLC will update us on their downtown tree planting project that incorporated structural cells and will talk about lessons learned. Your questions are welcomed! IISA Certified Arborist: 2.75, Municipal Arborist: 2.75, BCMA Science: .75, BCMA Management: 2. SAF Forestry Continuing Forestry Hours applied for.
